For the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Holland Festival, Zuidam has been invited to write a new piece. Along with new work by five other Dutch composers, it will constitute the 6x10-concert, which will take place on May 30th at the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ in Amsterdam.
From the HF-programmbook :
'The history of the Holland Festival from 1947 until the present day spans approximately six generations of composers. Six composers have been invited to write a piece of approximately ten minutes. The Holland Festival has a long relationship with Louis Andriessen, Guus Jansen and Martijn Padding.
Rob Zuidam, currently working on a new opera, accepted the invitation; Zuidam, Reza Namavar and Bart de Vrees represent the younger generations. The Schönberg Ensemble and Nieuw Amsterdams Peil will perform these pieces both seperately and together, with or without the musical guidance of Reinbert de Leeuw.'
Zuidams piece will be written exclusively for Nieuw Amsterdams Peil, a refined collective of expert performers of contemporary music. It will be performed without conductor.
Previously, Zuidam composed an opening fanfare for the 2005-edition of the Holland Festival, which was performed at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. In that same year the much acclaimed production of his Rage d'Amours and the McGonagall-Lieder also took place. In 1994 Zuidams first opera Freeze was performed at the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam as part of the Holland Festival, in a co-producion with the Münchener Biennale für neues Musiktheater and the Staatstheater Braunschweig.
